It is particularly suitable for the separation and purification of nucleic acids and proteins (because ammonium ions are volatile and leave no salt residues).

　　Used in organic synthesis: Acts as an acetylating agent or ammonia source, participating in cyclization, condensation, and other reactions, such as synthesizing heterocyclic compounds like pyrrole and pyrimidine.

　　Component of developing solvent in Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) to improve separation effects.
